"...[Articles of War: Privateer] could be just the game you’re looking for. It’s fast, easy, and re-playable. A great combination for any landlubber wanting to become an old salt someday."
We had the wonderful opportunity to guest speak at the Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy's Game Theory Class. A class that teaches students the process of game design and creation.
After sharing our thoughts on game theory and the production process, we were lucky enough to have the class test our game and write us some reviews. Below are excerpts of those reviews.
I loved playing the demo of this game, it brought my imagination to life and allowed me to be competitive in a safe environment. This is the next step to hexagonal strategy board games.
The re-playability is extremely high due to no mystery aspects and there is a good amount of skill and randomness. The board game was enticing and I hope everyone who plays will have as much fun as I did with my fellow crew mates.
This competitive sailing game is one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It is simplistic enough that you could learn it at any age, but also strategic in a way that allows more experienced players an enjoyable time.
I think privateer is a really cool game! The mechanics work well with the story in a way that is different and unique from other games I've played.
Complexity and variability gave the game its element of strategy and some randomness that complemented each other quite well... Overall it was a masterpiece.
Privateer allows for different types of strategies and playstyles, which really makes it more accessible for tons of different types of people.
Probably my favorite thing about the game was the hexagonal board, it means you have more options and you have to be more careful how you strategize.
This was definitely a game I would love to play again. This seems like a game where I would introduce it to my siblings and then proceed to get absolutely wrecked.
Articles of War Privateer is a very short yet interesting strategy game that can be understood easily & played by almost anyone.
I absolutely loved the game pieces. They were all so interactive and the little windows on the ships filled me with joy. Having metal coins is one of the coolest and most innovative game pieces I have ever seen.
Articles of War: Privateer is easy to learn but hard to master and I would recommend it for families and competitive players alike.
It was easy to set up and easy to start playing witch makes it friendly to new players as well as ones who have already played.
The dice dictated what you could do, but you used the dice the way you wanted, making the game feel like an even split between skill and luck.
I think that this game was very clever in its mechanics because it makes you have to think multiple steps ahead while having to bring in the randomness of the dice rolls.
I would probably give this game a 5/5 on my personal game rating scale.
This game was super fun to play and learn and when it releases I will run to buy it. Full 10/10 for me it was one of the best games I have ever played. And the people at sewage treatment games have some cool Ideas.
A good game is a game that people want to keep playing and I certainly wanted to keep playing Privateer... I am so glad I was able to play Privateer and I wish to see it available for purchase soon.
I loved how the barrels felt, I loved the dice and
their design, I loved the detail on the battle ships, and I loved the golden metal doubloons the most. I will buy Privateer as soon as it comes out because it was one of the most fun game experiences I had in a while.
I enjoyed the theme of Privateer quite well. I thought it was cool to have a
type of all vs all battle on the high seas.
Articles of War: Privateer is quite an interesting board game that, despite its relatively simple premise and gameplay, ends up being quite complex and strategic.
All of the visuals were really clean and definitely helped the game hold on to the theme. The game pieces looked great, and I liked the addition of real metal coins... I haven’t really seen a game like this so it was a fun experience. I like it a lot and would play again.
Overall I think that most of the mechanics of the game are sound, and with the inclusion of more advanced rules and house rules on your website everyone can find the way they like to play best.
I liked it. I liked that the instructions were easy to follow, and understand. I also thought the game was a fun game in general. I also know if it ever gets published that I will buy the game with my own personal money.
I really enjoyed the game. I would totally play it again because It was fun to sink the ships, earn
gold, and try to win the game.
It was refreshing and surprising that the doubloons ,or currency of the game, was actually metal and not just cheap cardboard. The game was more fun than I thought it would be going into it. The whole game was incredibly fun.
You maneuver your ships using a fantastic mix of luck and strategy, where you roll several dice, but you select which ship uses which dice. It has a great tactile experience with the metal coins, where I wanted to earn money, not just to win the game, but also because it was fun.
I like board games and like the captains and the ships and I hope you make more board games in
the future.
